Britain's obsession with reality TV looks set to reach its climax, as producers get to work on the ultimate variation of the genre. The new series, entitled Back To Reality, will bring together viewers' favourite contestants from various series for a final showdown.

So telly addicts can expect to see famous faces from Pop Idol, Castaway, I'm A Celebrity – Get Me Out Of Here, Survivor and Big Brother all living together under one roof.

"All the people in the house will be famous and familiar to viewers so they won't have to waste time getting to know them," said producer Sebastian Scott. "There will be an instant interest in them and their environment. It's intended to be a fun show and not about deprivation."

According to insiders, Linda Barker and Phil Tuffnell, of I'm A Celebrity, along with Big Brother's "Nasty" Nick Bateman and Jade Goody, have already agreed to take part.

There is no word yet on what the prizes will be, or indeed where the show will be filmed, but Channel 5 is promising it will be the "last word in reality".
