Former world heavyweight boxing champion Frank Bruno was released from a psychiatric hospital on Sunday, nearly a month after paramedics collected him from his home to place him in treatment.

Wearing a red top and baseball cap, the boxer gave press and onlookers the thumbs up as he was driven away from Goodmayes Hospital by his 21-year-old daughter Nicola. "Frank is delighted to be out of hospital and he is now looking forward to a speedy recovery," confirmed his agent.

Former wife Laura, who divorced the star in 2001, was a frequent visitor with the couple's three children, and was among family members who gathered for a special lunch to welcome the popular sports personality home. "Frank is doing fine, he is in good health… He just wants to spend time with the family," said an insider.

The 41-year-old athlete was sectioned under the Mental Health Act in September after a long struggle with depression. He had checked himself into the Priory Clinic earlier that month in a bid to deal with his psychological problems. Friends had indicated that the stress of his painful and costly divorce from Laura contributed to his declining mental health.
