Fans of Coronation Street have been warned that a ruthless femme fatale will soon be decamping in their favourite neighbourhood. Producers of the hit soap say Kelly Crabtree, who makes her debut on the show next week, will be the nastiest neighbour the folk of Weatherfield have ever known.

"Kelly uses her sexuality to get whatever she wants," explains actress Tupele Dorgu, who plays the vamp. "She doesn't take any prisoners and is incredibly selfish. She'll be causing lots of trouble and making quite a few enemies along the way."

Insiders at the series say the jezebel, who works as a factory seamstress, will embark on a steamy affair with her boss Danny Baldwin.

Television fans may recognise Tupele from her role as Natalie Vance in Mersey Beat. The Lancashire-born actress has also appeared in the hospital drama Casualty, but her latest character will be her most high-profile to date

"It's a fantastic opportunity for me," enthuses the 25-year-old. "Kelly's a real bitch but she's also quite funny in the great tradition of Street characters such as Vera, Ivy and Janice."
