PROUD MUM KATE PRESENTS LITTLE DARCEY ON LIVE TV

19 APRIL 2006

Beaming with pride, GMTV presenter Kate Garraway presented her five-week-old daughter Darcey to the programme’s viewers on Wednesday. The cute new arrival, who already boasts a shock of brown hair, opened her eyes and yawned during her television debut while her famous mum told viewers of her joy. “It is so lovely, I am enjoying every minute,” she said of her new role.

Kate, 37, admitted motherhood has been hard work but spoke of the blessings of having a child later in life. “I think it helps being an older mum, because you think to yourself I am going to make the most of this.” She also said her husband Derek Draper, 36, is “absolutely loving” fatherhood.

As a morning TV presenter, Kate is used to early starts, and confided that Darcey had an intuitive sense of timing, waking like an “alarm clock” at 6.55am, the same time that Kate is usually experiencing the adrenaline rush of going on air.

Her GMTV colleagues were clearly smitten with the baby, with Fiona Phillips telling viewers she was “absolutely gorgeous”. Darcey meanwhile was unfazed by all the fuss of her first television appearance, happily snoozing in her mum’s arms during a photo line-up on the GMTV sofa.
