Chris Tarrant tells of his regret over marriage split

Chris Tarrant has spoken candidly about his regrets over the breakdown of his marriage. The popular presenter, whose affair with a deputy head teacher led to the recent break-up, admitted to feeling great remorse over the pain he had caused wife Ingrid.

"I've really hurt her and I feel really bad about that," he said, before adding: "I'm sorry". The Who Wants To Be Millionaire? star made his comments at a TV awards ceremony just after his spouse affirmed there was "very little chance" of them getting back together.

The 60-year-old celebrity said he still cared about her, though, and hoped she would recover soon. "I still love her," he continued. "I didn’t mean for any of this to happen. How could I not love her? She's the mother of my children. She's hurt and I've no idea how long it will take for her to get over it - if at all. I'm hoping to move back into the family home but I can't until Ingrid has moved out - she's moving to the big house up the road with the kids."

Chris also revealed that their two teenage children were "coming round" to forgiving him. "They have found it really hard, but we are still mates," he explained. "Christmas is going to be really hard. I don't really know what's going to happen to be honest. I'm thinking about going over to Australia to watch the cricket."
