Oscar-winning actress Anna Paquin went back to her roots on Tuesday night when she attended the New York City Ballet's world premiere of Romeo And Juliet. The 24-year-old star of The Piano made her performing debut in a school ballet and maintains a keen interest in the art form.

"It came in really handy when I was doing all the stunt stuff in X-Men," the young star said.

Anna, who was accompanied by celebrated American design duo Mark Badgley and James Mischka, joined a host of stars including Beyonce, Bill Clinton, Sharon Stone and Sex And The City's Kristen Davis for the glamorous event. And the Winnipeg-born actress certainly held her own among the Big Apple's fashionistas, choosing an elegant empire-waisted silk-chiffon gown from her pals' Badgley Mischka label.

To complete the Renaissance-themed evening Anna and her fellow theatre-goers headed to a post-premiere ball themed after the gathering at the Capulet home where Juliet first met her Romeo. There, surrounded by a romantic purple décor, they tucked into an Italian menu inspired by the tastes of the Shakespearian lovers' Verona hometown.
