Nelly performs for her royal fans at Diana concert

After closing her US tour last week, Canadian-born singing sensation Nelly Furtado kept the energy going as she flew into London to perform at Sunday night's Concert For Diana - at the invitation of Princes William and Harry. Her lively set was a highlight of the Wembley Stadium tribute event.

Clearly a favourite with the young British royals, she belted out Maneater at the request of Harry and Like A Bird to the delight of William, who was spotted dancing to her upbeat tunes in the Royal Box along with his younger brother. "It's quite a graceful event, it's a beautiful thing," Nelly said backstage after performing in front of a 63,000-strong crowd.

She was introduced on stage by the American Idol crew of Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Ryan Seacrest, following Kiefer Sutherland's introduction of pop rockers The Feeling. "We've all seen her... as a princess, as a loving and dedicated mother and as one of the great, great, great icons of giving," said the 24 star. "On this day, July 1, which was to be her 46th birthday, we get to celebrate her through the music that she loved played by musicians that she admired."

The high-profile weekend gig proved to be a special hiatus in their busy schedules for both Nelly and Kiefer. Nelly's summer is just heating up as she brings her Get Loose tour to Portugal at the end of the month, with a concert set for July 27 in the Algarve and in the town of Cantanhede on July 28.

Dad-of-one Kiefer, meanwhile, had to jet back to Bucharest, Romania, to wrap up filming the thriller Mirrors, in which he features as a mall security guard. The Hollywood hunk is also producing the TV movie Phenomenon and is in talks to bring 24 to the big screen in 2008.
