A show of solidarity as Gwyneth and Chris make rare public appearance

08 SEPTEMBER 2011

It's no secret that Gwyneth Paltrow is Chris Martin's biggest fan.

Just this week, the 38-year-old beauty revealed that she loves to play Coldplay CDs while her husband is away.

And she has publically described her spouse as a "musical genius", likening their relationship to "living with Picasso".

This week it was Chris' turn to show his support for his Oscar-winning wife.

Fiercely protective of their private life, the couple are rarely seen together in public.

But the 34-year-old vocalist made an exception on Wednesday evening when he stepped out for a dinner honouring the actress in Mayfair, London.

While they were not photographed together, they were spotted leaving the venue within minutes of each other.

Gywneth – recently returned from the Venice Film Festival – looked stunning in a citrus orange Lanvin cocktail dress.

Her husband went for a more laid-back approach in a hooded jumper, dark T-shirt and trousers.

Much has been made of Chris and Gwyneth's discreet approach to their love affair, including the scarcity of their public appearances together and the blonde beauty's admissions that married life isn't always "rosy".

"I am a great romantic – but I also think you can be a romantic and a realist," she said this week.

"Life is complicated and long and I know people that I respect and admire and look up to who have had extra-marital affairs.

"It's like we're flawed – we're human beings…I think we're all trying our best, but life is complicated."

While Gwyneth might acknowledge that maintaining a marriage can be hard work, she has clearly found a formula that works with Chris.

In June of this year, the down-to-earth couple - who wed in 2003 and have two children together - were spotted looked absolutely smitten as they shunned fancy limousines for public transport.

"They were cuddling on the platform and when they sat down on the train they looked very much in love," one surprised onlooker told the Sun.
