Anne Hathaway's diamond sparkler steals the show

With a diamante choker and jewelled earrings, she was dripping in sparkling accessories. But it was the rock on Anne Hathaway’s ring finger that took centre stage at a gala on Sunday night. The actress debuted her new diamond in New York last week, shortly after the announcement of her engagement to actor and jewellery designer Adam Shulman.

Fiancé Adam – who created the $150,000 ring for Anne in collaboration with Kwiat Heritage Jewels – accompanied her to the dinner in Washington. And the loved-up pair were positively beaming as they made their debut as an engaged couple on the red carpet. Anne was stunning in a floor-length black strapless gown with a bow detail on the bust. She teamed the gorgeous gown with satin platform stilettos and a leather clutch.

The actress was there to support Meryl Streep, her co-star from The Devil Wears Prada, who was being honoured with a  lifetime of contribution award at the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts. Also on hand to congratulate the Oscar-winning veteran was Emily Blunt, another friend from the fashion flick.The English beauty arrived on the arm of husband John Krasinski, the 28-year-old looked delightful in a full-length fuchsia gown.

The talented trio were joined by Sarah Jessica Parker, who looked characteristically elegant in an unusual puffball gown.US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton presided over the reception in a duck-egg blue gown, featuring gold embroidered roses.
