Grief-stricken Christian Bale pays his respects to Denver shooting victims

His head bowed, lost in thought, Christian Bale stands at a makeshift memorial for victims of the Denver cinema shooting. Next to the Batman star his wife Sibi stares uncomprehendingly at the scene where young people waiting to see The Dark Knight Rises were gunned down.

The couple are doing their best to make sense of the tragedy by showing solidarity with those caught up in Friday's atrocity. As well as visiting the cinema they also dropped in on some of the 58 people injured.     One of them, Carey Rottman, posted two photographs of himself in hospital with the actor on his Facebook page. Nurses also posted a Facebook photo of the Batman star with them.

There has been an online campaign urging the actor to visit the victims of the shooting, in which 12 people also died. A Warner Bros spokeswoman told The Denver Post that Christian was representing himself, not the film studio. Some of the survivors have also received hospital visits from US president Barack Obama and members of the Denver Broncos football team.
