Katherine Jackson reinstated as guardian of Michael's children

03 AUGUST 2012

Katherine Jackson has been reinstated as a guardian of her three grandchildren, Prince, 15, Paris, 14, and Blanket, 10.

At a hearing Thursday, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Mitchell Beckloff found that Katherine was doing a "wonderful job" with Michael Jackson's kids.

"It's clear to me that the children are well cared for by Mrs. Jackson," the judge said, according to the Los Angeles Times.

"It is clear to me they love her very much."

The judge also said that the children's cousin T.J. Jackson – who was named temporary guardian after Katherine's was thought to be missing – would remain in that position and later share full guardian duties with Katherine.

Court papers have also resolved what had happened to Katherine when she was thought to be missing and not communicating with her grandchildren.

The 82-year-old mother of Michael Jackson declared in the documents that she learned she was the subject of a search when she accidentally heard a TV report.

Before that, she said she was kept without access to a phone or her iPad. She said her stay at the Tucson, Arizona, resort was unplanned, and she went there after she was told her doctor had ordered her to rest.

Before that she had been planning a cross-country trip to see her sons perform in concerts.

"While there was a telephone in my room, the telephone was not functioning and I could not dial out," she said in the documents.

"In addition, there was no picture on the television in my room."

She told of asking repeatedly to have the TV fixed. "One morning I woke up to the sound of the television," she said.

"While there was no picture, I heard a broadcast that stated I was missing."
