When Robert Pattinson steps out at the MTV Video Music Awards on Thursday, there will be one noteable face missing. While the entire cast of the Twilight saga will be promoting Breaking Dawn: Part 2, the series' heroine, Rob's girlfriend Kristen Stewart, will be absent. The couple have not been seen together since revelations that she had become close to the director of her latest film.

And instead of facing fans together with the English actor, the starlet has chosen to attend the Toronto film festival.Never the most comfortable with the spotlight, Kristen, 22, is said to be considerably nervous her first public appearance since her love life imploded. She was seen, head down, arriving in Canada wearing one of Rob's T-shirts – perhaps her way of telling him that she misses him.Kristen, who is Hollywood's highest paid actress with a pay packet of $34.5 million, recently spoke about how difficult she finds fame. She told Vogue: "People expect it to be easy because there you are, out there, doing the thing you want and making lots of money out of it."

"But, you know, I'm not that smooth. I can get clumsy around certain people." Kristen also admitted she's doesn't think too much about how to construct a public image for herself. She said: "Like if I were to sit down and think, 'Okay, I'm really famous, how am I going to conduct myself in public?' I wouldn't know who that person would be!"It would be a lot easier if I could, but I can't."
