Eva Longoria denies rumours of romance with George Clooney

19 JULY 2013

Eva Longoria has denied claims that George Clooney asked her out while he was still in a relationship with Stacy Kiebler. Us Weekly previously reported that George had unsuccesfully shown an interest in the Desperate Housewives actress, a claim that Eva took to Twitter to deny on Thursday.

"As interesting as the George Clooney rumors are, they aren't true," tweeted Eva, 38. "George and I have been friends for years."

Eva set the record straight after a source suggested that George, 52, had tried to pursue a romance with her despite his two year relationship with Stacy.

"He told her that he was still with Stacy," said the source. "But had plans to break up with her and was interested in being with Eva."

The rumours came just more than a week after George and Stacy announced they had gone their separate ways and two weeks after Eva confirmed that she is dating entrepreneur and philanthrophist, Ernesto Arguello.

Speaking about her Miami-based boyfriend, Eva told People magazine: "I think that's why our relationship is so special – we truly started as friends."

The couple met last year on reality dating TV show Ready For Love, produced by Eva and on which Ernesto appeared as a contestant. They have been brushing off rumours of romance for months – until recently when their friendship turned into more.

"I guess we have the press to thank for pushing us to see something we didn't see!" said the actress.

Once Eva, had made their romance public for the first time, she shared the good news with social media fans, tweeting: "Happy to share NOW that it's true! Couldn't be happier."

Her handsome beau Ernesto didn't waste any time in responding, "Me too baby, I LOVE YOU."

George and his actress model girlfriend Stacy split after months of speculation that their relationship was on the rocks.

Stacy, 33, reportedly broke up with the actor because they wanted different things in life.

"Stacy called it quits," a close friend of the couple told PEOPLE. "She wants to have children and a family someday. She knows where George stands on that.

"They talked and they quietly stopped being a couple several weeks ago."
