Patrick Stewart ties the knot – and friend Ian McKellen officiates the ceremony

09 SEPTEMBER 2013 Sir Patrick Stewart is a happily married man. The British actor tied the knot in a fun-filled ceremony at the weekend, and announced the news on Twitter with a picture and the simple statement, "Yes, married".

In the photo, only the heads of Patrick, 73, and his new wife Sunny Ozell are visible with their bodies completely submerged in a colourful ball pit.

Beaming for the camera, husband and wife look delighted as they shared their joy with Patrick’s 600,000 followers.

Patrick’s good friend and X-Men co-star Sir Ian McKellen officiated the wedding ceremony.

"I did my part," the Lord of the Rings actor revealed on his official Facebook page, sharing a picture of himself holding up a black 'Minister' t-shirt and his official 'Doctor of Divinity' certificate.

Ian, 74, revealed that he was set to officiate the marriage during an interview on the Jonathan Ross Show. "I am going to marry Patrick," he quipped to his host.

Patrick and Sunny – a 35-year-old singer-songwriter from Brooklyn – have been together since 2008.

They met while the Yorkshire-born actor was performing Macbeth at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, and started living together in 2012. They announced their engagement in March of this year.

It is the third time that Patrick has tied the knot. He has two grown-up children, Daniel and Sophie, from his first marriage to Sheila Falconer, to who he was married from 1966 until 1990.

Seven years after his divorce, he proposed to Star Trek: The Next Generation producer Wendy Neuss, and the couple exchanged their vows in 2000 before parting ways three years later.
