29 JULY 2014

Nicole Richie has shared her refreshing parenting style – the mum-of-two believes children want to know the truth.

The 32-year-old – who was adopted as a nine-year-old child by Lionel Richie – shares in a new interview with Oprah Winfrey that youngsters shouldn't be shielded too much.

She has six-year-old daughter Harlow and four-year-old son Sparrow with her Good Charlotte rocker husband Joel Madden, whom she married in 2010.

"There's always room for improvement," she said of being a parent on Oprah: Where Are They Now? "I do know that I do the best I can."

Nicole has made no secret of her struggles growing up in a famous family. Nicole went through run-ins with the law during her early years in the public eye, but has transformed her image since becoming a mother.
