21 AUGUST 2014

Robin Williams has found his resting place. The Oscar-winning actor's family scattered his ashes near his California home in San Francisco Bay the day after he died, it has been reported.

The much-loved star's death certificate states that his ashes were scattered "in San Francisco Bay off the coast of Marin County." Robin had lived in the area for almost 50 years.

The document from the State of California also reveals that a ceremony took place on 12 August at Monte's Chapel Of The Hills in San Anselmo, according to Radar Online.

It was a place he loved and where he felt at peace, a source told HollywoodLife.com.

"His family's here, his children, and he was a real leader in the community and extremely charitable to different organisations here too.

"I'm sure he'd want his final resting place to be here in the bay. He could have lived anywhere on the planet, but wanted to be here. It's only fitting he'd be buried or spread somewhere in the bay."

Robin was found dead at his California home on 11 August. He died at the age of 63.

The cause of death has since been revealed as suicide by asphyxiation, authorities in Marin County, California confirmed at the time. The beloved comedian had suffered an ongoing struggle with depression and anxiety.

His wife of nearly three years, Susan Schneider, released a statement to the New York Times shortly after her husband's death.

"This morning, I lost my husband and my best friend, while the world lost one of its most beloved artists and beautiful human beings. I am utterly heartbroken. On behalf of Robin's family, we are asking for privacy during our time of profound grief. As he is remembered, it is our hope that the focus will not be on Robin's death but on the countless moments of joy and laughter he gave to millions."

Robin is survived by his third wife, Susan and his three children, Zak, 31, Zelda, 25 and 22-year-old Cody.
