Angelina Jolie on her operations: 'Brad wasn't going to let me feel like I was less of a woman'

In a joint interview Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have opened about their strong marriage, her choice to have surgery and their new film By The Sea. The couple sat down on the Today show to speak candidly about their family, proving that their bond is stronger than ever.Two years ago the UNHCR Special Envoy had a double mastectomy after testing positive for a hereditary gene that gave her 87% risk of getting breast cancer. The 40-year-old actress decided to have the operation to avoid developing the disease that killed her mother.The Tomb Raider star later had her ovaries removed due to similar risks associated with ovarian cancer.

Brad was incredibly supportive during Angelina's surgeries

Speaking about Brad's support, the actress said bravely: "I knew through the surgeries that he was on my side and that this wasn't something where I was going to feel less of a woman, because my husband wasn't going to let that happen. "Her husband of a year added: "Whatever's got to be done to keep the family together, and keep the family together as long as possible is going to be done. This was her charge, no question. It's a scary decision. There's many things that can go wrong and go many different directions."

The couple sat down in a rare joint interview to discuss their latest film By The Sea

Discussing their latest movie, in which they both star, the couple said their relationship could not be more different from that of their deeply troubled characters Roland and Vanessa. "I'm counting on the audience to know that if it was close to us at all, we could never make this film," said Angelina, adding: "It's because we're actually very, very stable and these aren't our issues."
