On a night when Hollywood's most gorgeous ladies pull out all the stops it's hard to stand out from the crowd. But as far as our readers are concerned Nicole Kidman scored a hit in her show-stopping strapless Balenciaga column at this year's Academy Awards.

She bewitched Hellomagazine.com readers, who cast 8,000 votes to declare the Cold Mountain actress winner of our poll on Oscar-night frocks. The Australian star who rarely puts a foot wrong on the red carpet, gained 21 per cent of the vote.

Close behind her in second place with a 20-per cent share was Fantastic Four actress Jessica Alba, who was every bit the screen siren in form-fitting gold Versace.

There was also a hotly contested competition for third place between Keira Knightley, flying the flag for Britain in Vera Wang, and Reese Witherspoon in silver-beaded Dior.

In the end the Pride And Prejudice star won out with 13.5 per cent of the vote in her favour to the Southern belle's 13. For her appearance at the Kodak Theatre Keira chose an aubergine coloured fish-tail creation, offset with Bulgari gems.

Meanwhile voters were also enamoured with the bold colours chosen by Michelle Williams, who wore buttercup yellow, and Salma Hayek, stunning in sea blue, who each picked up around seven per cent of the votes.
