Fashion Week in the Big Apple opened with the runway shows from colourful menswear line Duckie Brown and modern women's designer Ports 1961, both featuring tweeds. The day concluded with US celebrities such as socialite Kim Kardashian strutting down the runway in the Red Dress Collection, which aims to raise awareness of heart disease among women.

Day two also had a charitable focus, as model Naomi Campbell partnered with designers like Donna Karan and Diane von Furstenberg to raise money for relief efforts in Haiti. Other highlights of the day included British duo Preen's feminine, flowing dresses and Nicole Miller's edgy street style in dark colours.

Things brightened up on the third day of Fashion Week as Lacoste presented a lively series of colour-block designs for men and women, while US designer Peter Som, who took inspiration from the Ang Lee comedy-drama Taking Woodstock, presented rich purples and greens.

Day four showed off modern looks, including Max Azria's second appearance of the week with his Herve Leger line of body-hugging dresses in tones of blue, grey and off-white. Meanwhile, Athens-based Vassilios Kostetsos presented bold looks for men and women that included touches of gold and bronze.

The following day gave a hint of what's to come on the red carpet, as the glamorous gowns of Carolina Herrera and Monique Lhullier paraded down the runway. Popular US designer Zac Posen closed out the day with pink and red mini-dresses worn by some of the world's top models.

Day six included Vera Wang's take on the little black dress, as her collection was made up of a number of frocks with fur, chiffon and jewel detailing. It was followed by Tibi's flirty dresses in delicate fabrics and subdued tones, which contrasted with the structured, architectural looks of Narciso Rodriguez.
