Hollywood's newest English starlet Rosie Huntington-Whiteley turns lingerie designer

We’re used to seeing her confidently flaunting her goddess physique in whisps of silk. So it comes as a surprise to discover that Rosie Huntington-Whiteley is actually quite shy. At the launch of her new lingerie collection with M&S, the former Victoria’s Secret model-turned-Hollywood-actress speaks softly and endearingly lowers her head.

In person, the Devon-born beauty, who made a splash in Hollywood on the arm of action movie star boyfriend Jason Statham, is just as beautiful as she is on screen. With her razor-sharp cheekbones, pillowy lips and smouldering eyes, it's no wonder that Rosie has become one of the most sought after models. But she’s not just a pretty face. The 25-year-old has put a lot of work into creating the confections, saying that she "trawled my favourite vintage shops and flea markets in London, LA and Paris". And this new venture is a dream come true for Rosie, who originally wanted to be a fashion designer but was "swept away" by her modelling career. The star believed becoming a model would help her make contacts in the fashion industry, but admits she got distracted along the way. "I always wanted to go to fashion college," she said, speaking to Vogue. "I got diverted. I got swept away to model and I thought, 'Well it will at least give me some experience within the industry and I'll hopefully get to work with different designers from all over the world - which is what I managed to do'." But her day job has helped her with certain decisions on this collaboration. "I drew on my experiences as a model to create lingerie pieces that work on the body and are as comfortable to wear as they are beautiful," she said. But will the collection also work for mere mortals who aren't 5ft 9inches of perfect?

"My goal was to create garments which could flatter women of all ages and sizes, inspiring confidence and making women feel gorgeous in their lingerie. "I made sure each design incorporated different shapes of bra and knicker together with camis and kimonos to complement the figure." Helpfully, the bras range from sizes A to G, while the knickers come in sizes 8 to 20. The prices aren’t extortionate either. Starting at £12.50 for knickers and £22.50 for bras, the most expensive item is the silk kimono, priced at £65. I’m hoping, as I’m sure a lot of women across the nation are, that some of these lovely items will end up appearing in my wardrobe. Fingers crossed my boyfriend is reading.Report: Alexandra Light
