Gisele Bundchen's former bodyguards jailed for shooting at photographers at her 2009 wedding

18 NOVEMBER 2013 Two bodyguards have each been sentenced to five years in prison for shooting at photographers trying to get pictures of Gisele Bundchen's wedding to Tom Brady in 2009.

Miguel Solis and Alexander Rivas were also ordered to pay their two victims $10,000 in restitution. A third bodyguard was cleared of all charges.

The incident took place in April 2009 as supermodel Gisele and NFL star Tom celebrated their wedding at a seaside home in Costa Rica.

Photographers claimed that the two minders demanded they hand over the memory cards from their cameras when they were caught trying to take long-distance pictures of the event.

They claimed that as they drove away from the scene, the bodyguards opened fire.

Photographer Rolando Aviles said that one bullet had almost hit him.

In court testimony, he said, "The bullet went in between us, missing our heads. If the bullet had been a little more to the left or right, it would have killed one of us. I said 'They're going to kill us'.

"I could have lost my life for the sale of some pictures that Gisele didn't want published. Are they insane?"

At the time, Brazil-born Gisele said she knew nothing about the incident. Her husband Tom initially disputed the photographers' claims. "We found two guys on our property and we told them to get out," he said. "Our security didn't even have guns."

The couple have two children, Benjamin, three, and Vivian, eight months.
