There had been rumours of an imminent engagement between Nicolas Cage and Lisa Marie Presley, but it seems now it’s not to be. Publicists for the two have confirmed that the Con Air star and Elvis’s only daughter have broken up after nearly a year together.

“Nicolas Cage and Lisa Marie Presley ended their ten month relationship two weeks ago,” said Nicolas’s representative. “They hope to remain friendly.” Lisa Marie’s publicist also confirmed the split, though neither gave a reason for the demise of the relationship.

News of the break-up came as a surprise to many, as the two were said to have been planning a wedding not too long after Nic’s August divorce from actress Patricia Arquette. The couple met one year ago and took the romance public last summer when the Captain Corelli’s Mandolin star was awarded an honorary doctorate from California State University with the former Mrs Michael Jackson by his side.

Rumours about the relationship’s end started over the weekend when Lisa Marie was spotted with her ex-fiancé John Oszajca, and Nicolas was seen making the rounds with ladies at post-Super Bowl parties on Sunday night.
