Meet Western star Glenn Ford's only child - a popular actor who starred alongside his famous father in almost 10 films

Peter was born in Los Angeles in February 1945, the only child of actor Glenn Ford and Eleanor Powell. His mother was a huge star in her own right, and worked as a tap dancer and MGM musical star, so perhaps he was always destined to follow in their footsteps.

Peter followed his parents into entertainment, and tried acting from a young age. His first speaking role came in The Gazebo (1959), which starred his dad and Debbie Reynolds.

He later appeared in other films including Pocketful of Miracles, Dear Heart, Advance to the Rear and The Rounders. His acting career included eight movies alongside his father, as well as other TV and film work.

Alongside acting, Peter also had a passion for music, which he pursued with his band The Creations, which played venues across San Francisco and Las Vegas. At one time he was reportedly under contract with Capitol Records and was mentored by Nat King Cole, but it wasn't long before he left the entertainment industry behind.

After graduating with an English degree in 1968, Peter moved away from acting and music, and became involved in the property business. He took over a building company in 1989 and operated it until his retirement in 1989.

Despite largely stepping out of the public eye, Peter did work to become the historian of his father's life, and published the book Glenn Ford: A Life in 2011, five years after the actor had passed away at the age of 90.

The book offered a revealing insight into the actor's private life, with Peter revealing how he had confronted his father about infidelity, as well as sharing more details about his professional achievements.

Peter married his wife Lynda Jean Gunderson in 1970 after meeting at university, and the pair have been married for 56 years. They share three children together, Aubrey, Ryan and Eleanor, who was named after his late mother who passed away in 1982.
