Hilary Swank and Dennis Hopper were among the film folk who joined Richard Gere at the debut of his new movie Unfaithful at New York’s famous Ziegfield Theatre on Tuesday night.

The Officer And A Gentleman actor stars opposite Perfect Storm’s Diane Lane in the stylish tale of deceit and revenge from 9 ½ Weeks director Adriane Lyne. Diane, 37, plays a Manhattan wife lured away from an apparently perfect marriage by a bohemian young SoHo book dealer played by Olivier Martinez. And, in a turn-up for the books, the perennial onscreen ladykiller is the one who gets cheated on.

The film opens with a steamy bathroom scene in which Diane Lane rejects Richard’s character’s amorous advances. Describing the role as a “voyage of discovery”, the 52-year-old star said: “I’ve never played such a normal guy before”.

Richard was accompanied to the premiere by his partner of seven years Cary Lowell. Co-star Diane was also on hand, showing up in a striking Dolce & Gabbana bra-top dress.
