The rumour-mill following Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez has taken another surprise turn after a warrant was issued for Ben's arrest. A 29-year-old woman, who claims she has been seeing the Daredevil star for the past 18 months, says the actor threatened to kill her.

Ben's publicist has dismissed the allegations as ridiculous, insisting he has never even met Tara Ray. "The allegation is absurd and defamatory to Mr Affleck," he said. "He has no idea who this woman is."

Magistrates in North Carolina issued a warrant for the 31-year-old's arrest after hearing sworn statements on Saturday. According to Ms Ray, Ben followed her home in his car on September 25, and made threats to her life.

Despite her claims, police have decided against launching an official investigation. "The warrant was taken out by a private citizen and only delivered to the police department," said Detective Sergeant Andrew Everhart. "Typically, when there is an arrest warrant issued for a person, they turn themselves in to the police."

Ben's aides have meanwhile asserted that dozens of paparazzi photographers can verify the actor was at his home in Savannah, Georgia on the day of the alleged confrontation.
