It's been a whirlwind week for celebrity honours, with an eclectic list of names from Michael Douglas to the Pet Shop Boys receiving gongs at the World Awards, Peter Fonda celebrating a star on the Walk Of Fame and Angelina Jolie being recognised for her commitment to humanitarian work by the UN.
Activist Angelina, who has spent time with refugees all over the world as a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador and published a diary of her experiences, Notes From My Travels, received the first UN Citizen Of The World award from Secretary General Kofi Annan's wife Nane on Wednesday in New York. "This is a lovely honour, but I see it as something that I hope to earn during my lifetime," she said in the run-up to the ceremony.
Meanwhile, while Peter inaugurated his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame alongside daughter Bridget Fonda, Michael Douglas, Morgan Freeman and the Pet Shop Boys joined former Soviet leader Mikail Gorbechev at the World Awards in Hamburg, Germany. Michael took home the acting prize, Morgan was selected as "world artist" and the Pet Shop Boys were recognised for their contribution to music.
Other honourees included Larry King and Karl Lagerfeld, winning for their work in media and fashion respectively, as well as Christopher Reeve, who was given a statuette for championing the cause of the disabled.
