Antonio Banderas returned to his home country of Spain on Monday along with his Imagining Argentina co-star Emma Thompson as the film made its local debut in Madrid.

The film, to be released in the UK on April 30, explores the poignant theme of the "disappeared", political dissidents kidnapped and murdered during Argentina's last dictatorship. Another tragedy, the recent terrorist bombings in Madrid, was on the minds of the two Hollywood stars, who both wore black ribbons in homage to the victims.

"The most important thing is not to tell children that our world is only full of pain and violence," said Emma, "but also that it is full of heroic acts, of people who act with honour, courage and honesty."

On a lighter note, Antonio, who is married to Melanie Griffith, said he was thrilled that the press junket had brought him to his home country this month. He now plans to spend the upcoming Easter holidays with his famous wife and and their young daughter Stella in the Southern city of Malaga, where he was born.
