After recently acknowledging the difficulties of a long-distance relationship – "You just have to try and communicate as best as possible" – screen hunk Matthew McConaughey has done his bit towards the maintenance of his romance by hopping on a plane to Spain to be with sultry Penelope Cruz.

The Spanish-born actress is currently lensing Pedro Almodovar's new movie, Volver, in their homeland, but filming commitments didn't stop her going off to show Matthew some of the sights.

The actor, due to hit UK screens alongside Al Pacino and Rene Russo in January with the dramatic comedy Two For The Money, already knows Spain from when he and Pen filmed scenes of Sahara there.

And he'll have been seeing more of the lesser-known parts of the country with his down-to-earth love on this trip: the loved-up twosome have been enjoying the area around the town of Cuenca, famous for its hanging houses, and helping Pen's dad celebrate his birthday with the rest of the family.
