The residents of Emmerdale are no doubt hoping their new neighbour will bring the weather with her. Anne Charleston, who is better known as Neighbours' Madge Bishop, has decided to swap sun-kissed Australia for the charms of the Yorkshire Dales by joining the cast of the rural soap.

Fans of the Antipodean series will be all too familiar with her previous character, who spent 11 years negotiating the trials and tribulations of life on Ramsay Street. It seems likely she will face further challenges in the UK drama, though, as producers are promising that sparks will fly when her character Lily arrives into town.

The small screen veteran doesn't seem too worried about how she will adjust to life in the British countryside, though. "I am over the moon to be joining one of my favourite soaps," said the actress.

Anne, who is currently based in Ireland, is just the latest in a series of Neighbours stars to make a name for themselves in Britain. Other cast members who have gone on to find success in the UK include Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan and Natalie Imbruglia.
