It was a busy weekend for Tinseltown's big names as a host of glitzy awards ceremonies meant that just about everyone who is anyone had a gala date in their diary. With three prize-giving events being staged at different venues around Los Angeles, the city's A-list residents were spoiled for choice.

For fans of sci-fi and horror flicks, the appropriately titled Scream Awards were the clear winner. British favourites Naveen Andrews and Kate Beckinsale were both among the famous faces seen rubbing shoulders at the annual bash, which celebrates the best scary movies of the previous year.

While taking home a trophy from the light-hearted gala doesn't carry quite so much kudos as an Academy Award, the London-born actress seemed delighted after being named this year's "Scream Queen" for her leather-clad role in Underworld: Evolution. Other celluloid beauties joining in the fun were Eva Mendes, Rosario Dawson and Jessica Alba, who received the Sexiest Superhero prize in recognition of her turn in The Fantastic Four.

High profile California residents in search of a more sophisticated night out were probably on the guest list for the Rodeo Drive Walk Of Style Awards. Silver screen veteran Anjelica Huston joined Sex And The City actress Kristin Davis and Desperate Housewives hunk Jesse Metcalfe at that glitzy shindig.

Headline-friendly starlet Lindsay Lohan was meanwhile snapped mingling with Ray Liotta and Virginia Madsen at a gala dinner in honour of legendary director Robert Altman. The Mean Girls star went along to congratulate the filmmaker when he picked up the Malibu Courage Award in recognition of his glittering career.
