An inspiration to women everywhere, this week Oscar-winner Helen Mirren was helping fete other remarkable ladies at a special awards ceremony in London.

She joined other high-achieving women, including Gordon Brown's wife Sarah and Natasha Kaplinsky, at the star-studded Inspirational Women Of The Year evening. They were gathered to celebrate the work of this year's six finalists over a gala dinner.

Strictly Come Dancing runner-up Rachel Stevens made a striking appearance in a vibrant blue asymmetrical number, while former weather girl Sian Lloyd was on hand to support the event in an unusual printed dress accessorised with a chunky necklace.

The famous ladies – including Changing Rooms' Linda Barker, Esther Rantzen and presenter Christine Bleakley – witnessed Sylvie Silver named this year's inspirational woman.

The 54-year-old was recognised for her varied contribution to others, including serving as a wing commander in charge of 1,300 teen air cadets in the London Air Training Corps, working with children and adults with learning difficulties, helping in a nursing home and acting as a director of a charity for older people.
