After spending 47 days adrift on a raft with two other crewmen in the Pacific he was captured by the Japanese Navy and imprisoned in a brutal prisoner-of-war camp for over two years.

Mum-of-six Angelina began shooting some of the most dramatic and challenging scenes on 16 October on location far out at sea in Moreton Bay.

Working with cameras on a floating rig in choppy waters and braving the elements, with actors dieting for months to appear as depleted as their characters, Angelina completed a successful first day of a location shoot that promises to be challenging.

The director-producer of In The Land of Blood and Honey is thought to have moved to Australia with her six children temporarily during filming.

The Salt actress paid a whirlwind 24-hour visit there in July to inspect possible locations in Sydney and the Gold Coast, and is now expected to remain there for the next few months.

The globe-trotting family often relocate for Brad Pitt and Angelina's film work. In 2012, they stayed at the £10million Wentworth Estate in Surrey, near London, while Angelina filmed Maleficent and Brad worked on scenes for The Counselor as well as parts of World War Z.

Meanwhile Brad, 49, is busy shooting his new film Fury in England.
