Cheryl tweeted that she had been feeling unwell

"Sorry for my absence on here the past few days," she wrote on Thursday. "I have been so sick. Trying to be better for Sat."

According to MailOnline Cheryl is "suffering from the highly contagious strep throat – a bacterial infection that attacks the tonsils and larynx."

This week's  X Factor shows will see two hopefuls leave the competition.

Seven acts will become five, with the one with the least viewers' votes leaving on the Saturday show, followed by another after a sing-off on Sunday.

Stevi Ritchie, who survived last weekend's sing-off against Jay James, has said he believes his time is up on the ITV talent show.

"Whether it's Saturday or Sunday, I'll be one of the ones that goes this weekend," he told RadioTimes.com.
