Kristen Stewart has revealed what prompted her to dye her hair platinum blonde. The 26-year-old explained that because of her acting career she often has to stick to "neutral" looks to fit a wide range of roles, but a recent break meant that she was able to experiment with her hair.

Kristen Stewart has revealed why she dyed her hair platinum blonde

"I haven't acted in a movie close to a year," she said during an appearance on the Today show. "I'm constantly preserving my physicality and staying neutral to fit the roles and be ready to do anything. "I worked and worked and worked on a few movies – they're all coming out now, which tends to happen – [and] I directed a short. I was like, 'You know what, I can do whatever I want!"

Although Kristen has been rocking platinum blonde hues in recent months, she floored fans earlier this month when she gave her look a seriously edgy update.

The actress recently floored fans with an edgy androgynous look

Arriving for the premiere of her film Certain Women, Kristen debuted what appears to be her lightest platinum shade yet, showing off her makeover by wearing her hair in a slicked back style. The Twilight star complemented the look with a slick of vampy burgundy red lipstick.

She also flaunted her style credentials, mastering androgynous chic in a dark red tailored blazer and trouser combination, accessorising her ensemble with black patent lace-up boots.

Kristen has been hard at work over the last few months promoting her latest films, including Personal Shopper and Café Society, the latter which also stars Blake Lively.

Having recently directed her first ever short film, the actress admitted that she is currently in a good place for her career. "I've never been happier," she beamed. "I love acting. I don't think there's a huge distinction between the two, for me. I found my next level, I'm ready to go."
