Girls Aloud and proud as they kick-start reunion tour

Girls Aloud kicked off their reunion tour in style on Thursday night. The quintet pulled out all the stops with an array of show stopping costumes and renditions of their greatest hits as they marked their comeback performance in Cheryl Cole's home city of Newcastle. The show was the girls' first gig as a group following a three year hiatus from the music industry. While during that time they each embarked on solo projects, in October Cheryl, Kimberley Walsh, Sarah Harding, Nadine Coyle and Nicola Roberts announced the time had come to take to the stage together once again for a 12 date arena tour.

Having been a long time in the making Nadine, 27, was amazed the tour's first date had finally come around. She tweeted "Waking up in Newcastle. First day of our Ten tour! Did I actually just say that? Xx" The singing sirens, who formed on Popstars the Rivals in 2002, gave a performance fuelled by over a decade of experience in the business and couldn't resist showing they are as close as ever. As the show drew to an end Kimberley and Cheryl shared an emotional hug.

Former Strictly Come Dancing contestant Kimberley expressed her excitement at how well everything had gone tweeting "Unbelievable first show tonight. Thank you Newcastle!!! #tentour." But for Cheryl it was being back where her career started that made Newcastle the perfect place to start their reunion. "I wish I could find the words to express how I feel right now!! Newcastle was perfect! I heart U! Thank you #proudgeordie tentour. "After a couple more shows in Newcastle, the girls are heading to Sheffield, Birmingham, London, Manchester, Glasgow, Nottingham, Liverpool, Belfast and Dublin.
