Famous for: stealing the limelight in Doctor Who

Born in Glasgow but raised in Illinois, John has enjoyed success in musical theatre on both Broadway and in the West End, appearing in everything from Evita to Miss Saigon. His musical talents have also taken him onto the big screen, where he appeared in the Cole Porter biopic De-Lovely and Mel Brooks' The Producers. The actor, who has also released a number of albums, became known to Brit audiences as a presenter of Live And Kicking, along with Emma Forbes and Andy Peters. More recently he has won a new generation of fans with his role as Captain Jack Harkness in Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood.
