With a round of applause and a loving embrace, King Juan Carlos of Spain congratulated his son Crown Prince Felipe on his victory in the Breitling Balaeric Islands regatta this weekend in Majorca.

Felipe and Olympian Fernando Leon joined forces on the CAM team, taking first place in the three-day event and even topping last year’s winner, who was King Juan Carlos himself. But the king will have a chance to redeem himself when he returns to Majorca next week for the King’s Cup regatta.

Felipe returned to Madrid following the weekend festivities to continue with his official duties. He is in the midst of preparing for an upcoming trip to Peru where he’ll attend the inauguration ceremony of newly-elected president Alejandro Toledo.

Meanwhile, Queen Sofia of Spain and the Duke and Duchess of Majorca are in Russia as the invited guests of renowned cellist Mstislav Rostropovich, with whom they visited a young children’s music school over the weekend.
