QUEEN MARGRETHE AND PRINCE HENRIK ON HOLIDAY IN FRANCE

Having put behind them what Prince Henrik called “the greatest crisis of my life”, the Danish royal couple were all smiles for a photo shoot at their official summer residence in Caïx, south western France on Thursday.

Prince Henrik and Queen Margrethe chinked glasses and sipped wine - made from grapes gathered in the surrounding vineyards on their estate – as they looked forward to their traditional August holidays at the royal family’s chateau.

Earlier this year, following his absence from the Dutch royal wedding of Crown Prince Willem-Alexander and Maxima Zorreguieta, Prince Henrik made some astonishing comments about his position in the royal family in an interview with a Danish newspaper. After saying that he felt useless, relegated and in the “midst of a mid-life crisis”, the Danish prince retired to his home town of Caïx to take stock of his life.

Judging by these new pictures however, Queen Margethe’s husband appears to be well over his doubts and the royal couple, who two weeks ago celebrated the birth of their second grandchild, can look forward to a happy summer break together.
