30 JULY 2003
As Queen Sofia's husband and two of her children took part in this year's King's Cup regatta off the town of Palma in Majorca, the Spanish royal, of course, had her eyes on the prestigious contest. But there was something else that merited even more of her attention – her grandchildren.

While King Juan Carlos I, Prince Felipe and Infanta Cristina took on the waves, Queen Sofia took on the care of Cristina's children – Juan, who is nearly four, Pablo, two, and 15-month-old Miguel – as she watched the event from the royal family's yacht.

It's obvious the little boys, who are Infanta Cristina's sons with her husband, former pro handball player Iñaki Urdangarín, are the apples of Queen Sofia's eye. The grandmum of five was smiling warmly as she hugged little Miguel and kept the other little ones close by her side. Meanwhile, the young trio, wearing matching white polo shirts and red shorts, watched intently as their royal relatives competed under the sunny Spanish skies.
