There can be little doubt about the public's fascination with the Clinton household after Hillary's autobiography broke sales records in the US. Retail chain Barnes and Noble has reported that it sent out over 40,000 copies in the first 24 hours, making it their fastest-selling non-fiction book to date.

The book's publishers, Simon and Schuster, has revealed that 200,000 copies were sold on the first day of publication. "By our estimates, we sold at least 20 per cent of the one-million first printing on Monday," said a spokesperson. The company has already ordered 300,000 reprints and is planning to put in another order on Friday.

Living History reveals intimate details of the Clintons' eight years in the White House, including the fallout from Bill's affair with Monica Lewinsky. In it Hillary discusses the moment her husband revealed his infidelity and reveals they slept in separate bedrooms for a period afterwards.

It is the first time the New York senator has aired her opinions on the scandal. The former First Lady, who was paid $8 million for her memoirs, has also dismissed speculation that the book is an attempt to boost her image in preparation for a presidential bid. Appearing on CNN's Larry King Live, Hillary insisted she has no intention of running for the White House.
