Primary school children in the city of Sarajevo received a royal visitor on Tuesday, when Denmark's Princess Alexandra came to see them. The Hong Kong-born princess, who is married to Prince Joachim, came to their school as part of a three-day visit to Bosnia.
The Scandinavian royal is touring the beleaguered country as a guest of Unicef. She is hoping to raise awareness of the difficulties facing young children in the Balkans nation, which is still recovering from the 1992-95 war.
After arriving, her first stop was at the University of Sarajevo, where she was shown around the Gynaecological-Obstetrical Clinic. She also took time to chat with mothers and health workers about the challenges they are facing, before paying a visit to an immunisation centre.
When she returns home, the princess will go about raising funds for the children of Bosnia. Since 1992, Unicef has spent over $70 million on helping needy youngsters in the troubled country, but there is still an enormous amount of work to be done. The organisation has been counting on Princess Alexandra's support for the past four years.
