Sweden's crown princess has made some striking style statements over the years, but the outfit she chose for a fancy dress ball to mark a relative's birthday party at the weekend was truly unforgettable. Victoria and her younger sister arrived at the celebration in jaw-dropping Marie Antoinette-styled gowns.

The future queen wore a layered corset dress in pink and turquoise embroidered silk, while Madeleine went for a slightly simpler white creation with floral print. A voluminous brunette wig and plumed headress completed the look for Victoria, and her sibling likewise took a step back in time with a straw hat over her blonde bouffant.
One man who was no doubt delighted by their efforts was host Gustaf Magnuson. The crown princess' cousin and a familiar face on the Stockholm social scene, Gustaf threw the fancy dress ball to mark his 30th. Also in attendance was the princesses' brother Carl Philip, who looked every inch the gentleman in a black velvet jacket and cape.
Victoria will have to pick out some rather more modern attire for her next public outing, however. She is due to meet young environmental experts from all over the world when she presents the Stockholm Junior Water Prize on Tuesday evening. |
