Mum-to-be Princess Letizia has been enjoying a rural getaway with her statuesque husband Felipe. Spain's future king and queen were spotted strolling hand-in-hand through the scenic countryside of Asturias, on the northern coast of their home country. In Spain, it is traditional for people to take the entire month of August as an extended summer break. The royal couple made the most of their holidays by paying a visit to the picturesque town of Sardeú, where Letizia's grandmother lives.

The 33-year-old royal, who is due to give birth in three months, has visited her paternal grandmother every summer for years now, and she intends to continue the tradition.

She and her leading man were photographed strolling in the countryside around the family smallholding which holds so many fond memories for the princess. It is likely Crown Prince Felipe also harbours affection for the house and its surroundings, as he spent time there with Letizia's family just after she accepted his proposal in late 2003.

Indeed the pair have visited Asturias no fewer than nine times since they first got engaged. This year they began their summer break in the Balearic Islands, where the Spanish royals traditionally head for the month of August, before heading to the north of the country to visit Letizia's family. With just a few days left before September, the couple has now returned to Palma de Mallorca for one last blast of sunshine before going home to Madrid.
