"The Crown Princess's condition six weeks before her due date is stable and she is feeling well," explained head of obstetrics Professor Bent Ottesen. "She needs to remain here for observation for the time being."

People in both Denmark and Mary's homeland of Australia are now anxiously awaiting news of her progress. On the advice of her doctors, the Royal Household has cancelled all her engagements until further notice.

It remains unknown whether the 33-year-old is expecting a boy or a girl. The Danish government has already drawn up plans to change the constitution in the event the new arrival is female, however, as the current system gives preference to male children.
