Four-month-old Prince Christian of Denmark made his first trip abroad over the weekend, accompanying his parents on an official visit to Germany.

Following a stop-off at the Winter Olympics in Turin, Crown Prince Frederik and his Australian-born wife Crown Princess Mary carried on to the northern German federal state of Schleswig-Holstein for a two-day visit which encompassed a varied schedule. The first-time mum and dad attended a gala dinner, met cheering fans in the streets, and got to touch parts of the old wall which formerly separated Denmark from Germany. Little Christian was kept out of sight, but, in accordance with his mother's wishes not to be separated from him even during official tours, he was taken along on the trip.

There had been some rumours that the future king and queen would cancel their visit in the light of the widespread unrest caused by cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed which were published in a Danish newspaper.

Frederik and Mary, who are already firm favourites amongst Europe's royals, maintained their schedule, however. "It is business as usual," said their press spokesperson.
