Kate invited to join Wills for Christmas Day at Sandringham

As speculation mounts about a possible engagement for Prince William and long-term girlfriend Kate Middleton, the pretty brunette's place in "the firm" looks more secure than ever as she has apparently received an invite to spend Christmas with the Royal Family at Sandringham.

It would be the first time an unmarried partner has been invited to the festivities at the Norfolk estate. The 24-year-old has already met the Queen, and enjoys a good relationship with her royal beau's family. Christmas at Sandringham would, however, be the most important mark of her acceptance so far.

According to the Mail On Sunday Kate has yet to accept the prestigious invitation and must decide whether to miss her own family's celebrations at the Middleton home in Berkshire.

A spokesman for Clarence House refused to confirm the report: "Christmas plans are being discussed, but we do not discuss Royal guests."

The festive season's schedule isn't the only thing on the royal family's agenda. Prince William, currently completing his military training in Cyprus, is said to be planning a star-studded charity pop concert, along with brother Harry, in memory of their mother.

The event, pencilled in for July 1 next year, is hoped to attract some of the biggest names in music, with likely performers including Elton John, Kylie Minogue and Beyonce. William and Harry are reportedly taking a hands-on role in organising the concert, which is slated to be staged at the new Wembley Stadium.

It is hoped that the concert, marking what would have been Diana's 46th birthday, will be an upbeat and positive celebration of her life. All profits would go towards a range of good causes, such as Harry's charity Sentebale, set up to help orphans and AIDS victims in Lesotho, Diana's favourite landmine clearance organisation and homeless charity Centrepoint.

The concert, yet to be officially confirmed, is understood to have the Prince of Wales' full support. Paddy Harverson, Charles's communications secretary, said that the event was just one of several ideas being considered.
