Seasonal excitement builds for Europe's royal youngsters

With December 25 just a few days away, Europe's leading royals are preparing themselves for some unforgettable celebrations. And this year's festive season looks set to be extra special in both Spain and Belgium, where a new generation of princes and princesses are reaching the age when Christmas is at its most magical.

Five year-old Elisabeth, the eldest daughter of Crown Prince Philippe and his wife Mathilde, was photographed walking hand-in-hand with her cousins Princess Laetitia, three, and Princess Louise, two, at a carol service in Brussels Palace on Wednesday. Prince Laurent and his British-born wife Claire Coombs were also in attendance for the traditional event, along with the newest editions to their family, twins Aymeric and Nicolas, who turned one just last week.

In Spain, meanwhile, little Princess Leonor is gearing up for her second Christmas with parents Felipe and Letizia. And the youngster - who has recently learned to stand unaided - takes pride of place on the couple's annual Christmas card. This time next year the tot will have a little sister to share the yuletide celebrations with, as the Crown Princess is expecting another baby girl.
