Norwegian royals Haakon and Mette-Marit enjoy family fun on the ski slopes

15 APRIL 2013

Crown Prince Haakon of Norway and his wife Mette-Marit treated their family to some fun in the snow this weekend.

Haakon, 39, was seen pushing the couple's two children Ingrid Alexandra, 9, and Sverre Magnus, 7, along the ski slopes of Beitostoelen in Norway, something that brought screams of delight from the youngsters.

Mette-Marit, 39, who also has son Marius Borg Hoiby from a previous relationship, was happy to look on as her husband put all his effort into the sledge ride.

The Norwegian royals' photo call took place after they had participated in the Ridderrenn skiing competition – an annual race held for the visually impaired.

Norway's future monarchs showed solidarity with racegoers as they skied over the finish line with their children in tow. The entire family were awarded medals for their efforts.

Prince Haakon's sister Martha Louise, 41, also attended the race.

In a few weeks, Mette-Marit and Haakon will be on the road when they travel to the US for an official visit, scheduled to begin on 5 May.

The couple will begin their trip in Houston, Texas, before touring technology companies in San Francisco's Silicon Valley.

It will be something of a return for Haakon, who graduated from California's prestigious Berkeley University with a Bachelor's Degree in political science.
