No plans for 'Middleton family annex' at William and Kate's royal apartment

26 AUGUST 2013 Kate Middleton has made it abundantly clear that her parents Carole and Michael Middleton are to play a great part in Prince George's upbringing.

But, according to a Palace source, no arrangements have been made for the Duchess's parents to have their own designated quarters at their royal apartment at Kensington Palace, The Telegraph has reported.

Apartment 1A, the previous abode of Princess Margaret, is where Prince William and Kate are set to live with their baby son upon completion of the £1million renovation works currently underway.

Although recent reports have stated that a "granny flat" was to be incorporated into the design of the lavish 21-room home, it is believed that a more modest guest room is on the cards for the Duchess's parents.

A spokesman for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge said there is no "Middleton family annex", planned in the design of their royal base, where they are expected to move next month.

Kate is said to have been involved in the design of the apartment, with a source telling the Mail Online, "Kate has obviously been really engaged in the whole thing and she has good taste.

"The apartment is absolutely beautiful. It is mainly decorated in neutral tones but with lovely textures and furnishings."

The Middletons are certain to be frequent visitors at William and Kate's primary residence. They were the first to meet the young Prince the day after he was born at the Lindo Wing of St Mary's Hospital in Paddington.

After just one night at Kensington Palace with the newborn, William and Kate relocated to her parents’ family home in Bucklebury, Berkshire, to be close to them and in the safety of their Manor estate.

Then when the official photographs were revealed of the baby Prince, and the third in line to the British throne, they were taken in the leafy green grounds of Kate's parents’ home rather than the regal surrounds of the Palace.

One of the two informal family snaps – taken by Michael himself – included not only Kate and William's black cocker spaniel Lupo, but the Middletons' family pet, golden retriever Tilly.
