Prince George is the spitting image of mother Kate Middleton in new royal picture

Prince George looks exactly like his mother,Kate Middleton, as can be seen in a family photograph released by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge ahead of Britain's Mother's Day and their Australia and New Zealand tour.

The official family photo shows that baby Prince George is taking after his mum's side of the family, with the same adorable chubby cheeks she had as a baby.

Another unmistakable Middleton feature is his cute round button nose – baby pictures of the Duchess show the same shape – which can be seen perfectly in the royal snap as the eight-month-old is caught looking sideways at the family's black spaniel, Lupo.

The most recent intimate portait of the family shows William and Kate pictured through an open window at their home, Apartment 1A of Kensington Palace.

Devoted mum Kate holds onto baby George while Prince William has his arm protectively around their much-loved family pet, who also made an appearance in the first ever picture released of George.

For the picture the Duchess of Cambridge sported a light-coloured jumper and wore her trademark brunette locks in loose curls around her shoulders.

Dressed like his father, who sported a light blue shirt, adorable George wore a dusky blue jumper bearing his name over a white shirt.

George's grandfather also left his mark on his first grandson – the blue jumper is understood to have been a gift from Prince Charles.

The portrait, released to mark Mother's Day, was taken by renowned photographer Jason Bell, who was also commissioned to take the official photos of Prince George's christening in October last year.

It comes ahead of the trio's three-week tour of Australia and New Zealand in April, when young George and his nanny will accompany his parents and where royal fans expect to be treated with a couple of public appearances.
